The rooms you frequent most should be located on the main level of the home. All living areas that you need should be accessible and have ample room to move about.
As you age in place, others may live in your home to provide assistance. If your home will have multiple generations of family members, a good floor plan provides for separate entrances and living spaces, with common areas for sharing time and activities. If you have a live-in caregiver, you will need to provide a bedroom and bath.
